Why is this girl smiling? Because she is happy and making progress! On Sunday, March 2, Amy first began communicating with us by answering yes and no questions by nodding and shaking her head. This was her first communication since October 17 when she had her surgery. And once again it was a Sunday, March 16, when Amy spoke her first words! Tricia was doing "The Amy Cheer," (Give me an A, give me an M, give me a Y, what's it spell? Amy!). Amy spelled and said her name! These were her first words since October 17! She has turned the corner and is hopefully well on the long road to recovery. This week Amy has stood with the aid of a walker and with the assistance of the therapists. She is smiling, laughing, talking, even reading! Who knows what tomorrow will bring? We are preparing for Amy's tentative discharge date of April 24. We will be finalizing plans for modifying our home to accommodate Amy's wheelchair and limited mobility.
Our friends and family, including YOU, have provided hope and encouragement through some very difficult times. Our faith was strained, but your prayers provided us with the strength to remain optimistic, and gave us hope that Amy would recover. She has a long journey ahead of her, but we are confident that our prayers will be answered. We look forward to providing more good news in the weeks to come. Thank you so much for your "sleep-overs" and thoughts and prayers.
We love you!
Tricia, Ed, Nicholas, Amy & Alex
